The New Orleans

advocate HQ

Historic renovation and conversion of a Mid-Century car dealership, designed by the original architects of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, into the headquarters for New Orleans’ flagship newspaper.

overview

Avenue Gallery LLC engaged Palmisano as the Design-Build contractor to lead the historic renovation of a contemporary workspace for The New Orleans Advocate on St. Charles Avenue. Through extensive site exploration and considerable collaboration, the team successfully restored many architecturally significant features, such as original masonry walls, barrel-vaulted ceiling, and exterior façade.

The renovation, designed by Mayo Wallin Architects and Dalton Architects, features a luminous lobby with a helical stairway, large viewing balcony for Mardi Gras parades, spacious open-concept newsroom, retail space, and an event space to host community gatherings. Completed in 2017, this 25,320-square-foot building pays respects to its mid-century modern origins, while giving new life to a formerly deteriorating building.
